Q&A: Sandler and Grovo’s Partnership for Success

Q&A- Sandler and Grovo's Partnership for Success

Sandler Training recently chose online learning leader Grovo as its exclusive partner to develop and deliver Microlearning modules based on Sandler’s renowned sales, management, and leadership training. Sandler will also be offering access to Grovo’s award-winning content library to Sandler clients via the Sandler Online portal.

Grovo is a New York City-based technology and content development company offering a modern learning platform that engages employees and advances organizational performance. We asked Sandler Training CEO and President David Mattson to share some thoughts about the new partnership.

Q. Why Grovo?

A. At Sandler, success and changing lives is our goal – and our mission. Sandler trains over 30,000 people each year, and as we started evaluating the feedback from our clients, we realized that every one of those people would, ideally, prefer to consume our content in their own way, on their own schedule. So we really have seen a growing demand for short, concise, self-paced lessons. Sandler has recently launched a two-year initiative to enhance their training and reinforcement content, online, so that it’s available 24/7, in any format.  microlearning is part of that strategy, and Grovo is well known as the global leader in microlearning, so they were a natural choice for us.

Q. What is Microlearning?

A. Grovo defines it as follows: “A modern and effective approach to workplace learning that delivers targeted lessons to employees in their workflows … so they can naturally learn new behaviors over time.” This kind of learning is precisely targeted to a single skill, which means that as an employee, whenever I’m taking advantage of a microlearning resource, I am focusing on only one new skill at a time, at my own pace … so it’s easier for me to move beyond my comfort zone and turn that new skill I’ve taken on into a repeatable behavior, into muscle memory.

Q. What else distinguishes Grovo’s approach?

Two big things. First, microlearning leverages the workplace as a learning environment. So in this platform, we’re not taking the employee out of the job they do and telling them, “Hey, it’s time to change gears for a day, so you can do this thing called ‘learning’ instead of working.” We’re making the work environment itself an enriched learning environment where people are learning to succeed both personally and professionally, which is a major theme at Sandler.

And second, the lessons are highly flexible. The material is extremely easy to access, it’s easy to schedule, it’s easy to assimilate, and it’s easy to customize to your own skill level … all of which is what learners, and particularly younger learners, tell us they are looking for.

Q. So is this about reaching new audiences?

Yes, but it is also about giving our current clients some powerful tools for learning and reinforcement. Certainly, though, one of the big reasons we are so excited about partnering with Grovo is the opportunity to engage powerfully with a whole generation of people who are actively seeking shorter, more focused online learning resources. Now, with both of those groups in mind, we will be creating and distributing a whole suite of microlearning resources that provide today’s teams with critical learning and reinforcement assets – not just for the Sandler content, but also in a huge range of other areas from Grovo’s content library, in areas such as compliance, diversity, and project management. And all of it is delivered in a concise, laser-focused, multi-media, online format that is relevant, easy to master, easy to come back to, and immediately applicable.
